What a fantastic day we had at Butser Ancient Farm!

Our trip to Butser Ancient Farm was huge success. The children behaved superbly and showed fascination and interest with the pre-history we explored. I am certain that the children will have come home full of stories of their adventures today. Our day started with a tour of the site, seeing first-hand how the settlements changed through the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. We had the chance to smash chalk stone and mix with water, soil and straw to make daub that we spread on the walls of a new house that is being built on site.

After lunch we became archaeologists, digging in quadrants to see what artefacts we could uncover before finally making our way into one of the smaller round houses to make thumb pots using clay that had been dug out the ground this morning. Throughout the visit the children have been able to handle artefacts and ask questions. I am sure you are eager to see some photos from the day, they can be enjoyed by clicking on this link to a private YouTube channel that is just for sharing photos from our class. https://youtu.be/MN1o9rjgzMM?feature=shared
