What a fantastic day Y2 had in London last week.
We journeyed from Haslemere to Victoria Station with an extra special treat from Conductor Les letting us make our own announcements to the train passengers! For many of us these three train journeys were our first ever time on train, it was very exciting to be on all the different platforms and watch the trains go by. During our walk to The Palace we were able to spot many London sites, including The London Eye in the distance.
Our first stop was for a very Royal Bathroom break in the Royal Mews. We had to go through security and got a sneak peak of some of the carriages we would see later. Then, we made it in front of Buckingham Palace just in time to see the end of The Changing of the Guard. We were amazed to see so many soldiers marching and playing music together. Their big bear skin helmets looked very heavy! We found a nice bit of grass in the shade to eat our lunch in front of Buckingham Palace before walking to the children's gardens St James' Park for a short play.
When we got back to The Royal Mews we had a talk all about Coronations through time and were able to try on a replica crown before Philip was crowned King! Finally we took a look around the stables admiring all the different carriages that were on display. Ask us how many diamonds we saw or how many crowns there were on each carriage, see if we can remember some of the different jobs that people do when working at the stables or what the name of the Royal horse we saw was.
Thank you to all the parents who came to help us with this day out, it really was an adventure we will never forget.
