    • Monday @ Cobnor

      Published 30/06/25, by Lana Kelsey

We are off to a great start for our Year 3 & 4 residential.   Our day started with a tour of the site and going through the all important safety rules for our visit before we were took all our luggage to our rooms and started unpacking and getting through our first team work challenge of making up our beds.  Putting fitted sheets on bunk beds is not easy, but everyone was able to make their beds and get their duvet the right way around in the cases.   We ate our lunch in the dining room to enjoy some shade, before spending some time starting our journals then heading into our two afternoon activities: areoball - think basketball on a trampoline - and orienteering around the site.

These sessions were great fun and everyone really enjoyed working together and being competitive.   By the end of the afternoon, it was getting very hot, so we decided the best way to cool down was with an enormous water fight.  By the end, everyone was soaked and laughing their heads off.   It didn't take us long to dry out playing some games in front of our lodge then everyone had a shower and changed for dinner.

Chef Alex cooked up 'the best mac'n'cheese I've ever eaten', 'delicious meatballs' and treated us all to chocolate brownie and ice-cream for dessert.   All 24 plates were spotless at the end of the meal.

After dinner we organised our rooms ready for our first inspection, then headed off on a 4KM walk along the shoreline towards Chidham.   We saw beautiful scenery, recapped lots of our history, geography and science curriculum and admired the golden sunset.   Having made it back at 9:30 all teeth were brushed and everyone is settled into bed.

This link will take you to a video showing all the photos from today.

Please help us to learn where the countries of the UK, and the world's continents and major oceans are located on a map.    All children will bring home a map of the UK and a world map today.  There are house points available for when children return to school able to complete the challenges.   This is a recap of work that the children learnt in KS1 so it is not new learning.   Many thanks for your support.

    • Beach School

      Published 11/06/25, by Lana Kelsey

Year 3 had a wonderfully wet and wild day at Hayling Island for our beach school day.

We started on the stone side of the beach, building rock towers so we could see the tide coming in, then became treasure hunters looking for interesting items on the shore that we could use to create group museums.   We carefully arranged the items we found into different groups, righting labels and agreeing our 'Star Item'.   After lunch, we explored the sandy side of the beach, enjoying time with our friends, climbing over the sea defence rocks, litter-picking, building sand castles before heading to the shoreline for a paddle.  To have a look at our photos see here:    https://sway.cloud.microsoft/1DRH9dLWObYeKy0F?ref=Link

    • Please help us learn to tell the time

      Published 23/05/25, by Lana Kelsey

In maths we are working very hard to learn how to tell the time.   In Y2 children learnt about o'clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past.   In Year 3 they need to be confident telling the time to the nearest minute on both analogue and digital clocks.

They also need to know how to use a calendar.    To support this work, I ask that you please dedicate time over half term to practicing this essential life skill with your children.   I have prepared the following resources to help you do this:

      • Please point out clocks in your environment and support children to read the time correctly.  Ask them how many minutes past the hour it is and how many minutes until the next hour it is.

      • Use the plastic clocks that I have sent home in children's bags to practice moving the hands of the clock to the correct place.  Please ensure these are returned after half term.

      • Help your children to learn the 30 days have September poem off by heart.  I have attached a copy to this email.  Show them calendars in your home.  Ask them what month we are in, which came before and which came after.   Explore which month friend's and family birthdays and celebrations take place in.

      • Use these infinity quizzes to practice the key skills.  School Code: QYS SHJ   Y2 quiz codes:  29-85-65, 85-83-69, 33-42-64 and Y3 quiz codes: 11-57-64,  86-55-78, 08-21-07, 35-69-96, 91-33,88.

      • Complete the questions on the sheets that are attached to this email and that have also been sent home in your children's bags.

Please return this work on Tuesday 3rd June.  Children who can recite the poem and bring in completed sheets with their returned clocks will be given a gold sticker.

Many thanks in anticipation of your support with this vital learning.

Well done to everyone who brought in Explore work from this half term's RKE sheets.

It was great to see so many families have been enjoying cooking as part of their learning alongside creating games and designing gardens.

With such a creative group of children, I can't wait to see what the children make for their final term of Y3 Explore projects.  The new RKE sheets will be coming home soon and will be due back in school by 9th July.

What a marvellous day Y3 had in the woods on Tuesday.   All day we used our teamwork strengths to make swings and shelters, showing fantastic co-operation with each other.   Our fire lighting team started a great fire for us which we cooked a delicious lunch over before finishing the day with testing out how well our shelters worked by hiding under the canopy to avoid the sudden rain that came from Mr Hayden's bucket of water!   To see the photos we took during the session please click here.
