  • Butser Ancient Farm Trip

    10/09/2025

What a fantastic day we had at Butser Ancient Farm with our Year 3 adventurers! As soon as we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff, who kicked off our experience with a quick but important safety talk. We then made our way to a real-life roundhouse where the children were transported back in time with a fascinating insight into Stone Age life — complete with smoky smells, animal skins, and tales of ancient living. The excitement continued as we explored the farm, learning about Iron Age houses, ancient crops and traditional ways of living.

The hands-on activities were a real highlight! The children got creative with clay, carefully shaping either a bowl or bead just like people might have done thousands of years ago. After working up an appetite, we enjoyed a lunch break in the cozy roundhouse (what a unique picnic spot!). In the afternoon, the children became archaeologists, taking part in a dig where they discovered all sorts of ancient treasures buried beneath the soil. It was a brilliant, muddy, memory-making day filled with learning, laughter and a whole lot of fun.

The day was not only packed with activities but also sparked so much curiosity and conversation amongst the children. It was wonderful to see them so engaged — asking thoughtful questions, making connections to what they've learnt in class and working together during each task. The archaeological dig especially brought out their inner explorers, as they carefully brushed away soil and uncovered artefacts with great care and excitement. We’re sure they’ve come away with a deeper understanding of life in the Stone Age — and plenty of stories to share at home!
